About Dedoplistskaro in Georgia (GE)

Introduction

Tourist Bureau “Dedoplistour” invites guests to the Dedoplistskaro municipality of Georgia, which has the status of a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The 30% of the district are the protected areas. It is located in the southeast part of Georgia near the Azerbaijan border. The region was named in historical resources as ”Kambechovani” or “Kiziki”.

Generally, it is the agricultural region and produces most of the wheat, harvested in the whole country in the year.

Local people are Kizikians- (Kiziki is part of Kakheti), who are distinguished from Kakhetians by their characteristic calmness, and prepare traditional Kizikian dishes from local natural products.

There the visitors can meet small Georgia: representatives from different parts of the country: from Racha, Ajara, Tusheti, Pshavi, Khevsureti, Khevi, and others, who still make their traditional dishes for the guests 

Here together with Georgians friendly live Armenians, Azerbaijanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Gypsies, and other nationalities. The visitors feel themselves in the town of friendship.

Dedoplistskaro municipality is located on the Shiraki Plateau between the Alazani and Iori rivers, 150-800 m above sea level. 

 It is 130 kilometers away from Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport.

The area of the municipality is 2,529 km2 (976 sq mi)

The municipality has two types of climate: a moderately warm steppe climate in the south and a moderately humid climate in the north. 

The average yearly temperature is 10.3 °C

Day length in Dedoplistskaro and Georgia:

On March 20-22 and September 20-25, the length of the day is exactly 12 hours, just like the night. 

On the longest day, June 21 or 22, the length of the day reaches 15 hours. 

The shortest day of the year is 9 hours on December 22-23.

 

Identification is required:

In Georgia, identity documents are compulsory. Every Georgian citizen must have an official ID card. When crossing the border, every person - regardless of age - must also carry a passport. This also applies to foreign nationals. 

We, therefore, ask you to carry your identity card or passport with you at all times. In all governmental institutions, such as ministries, and offices of the Protected Areas, you will also be asked to show your passport.

Please also have your insurance certificate with you. In case of an emergency, you will need the printed-out proof of insurance with you to receive treatment.

 

Electricity:

The main voltage in Georgia is 220 volts with a mains frequency of 50 Hertz. In hotels, there are usually electrically insulated sockets for shavers, which can also be used for British and American sockets. We recommend that you bring adapters so that you can use your electronic devices.

 

Equipment

Comfortable clothes and shoes according to the season are required. If we are going overnight, we will need a tent, a sleeping bag, an inflatable mattress, and a backpack. These items can be rented on the spot. Those who have any kind of health problem should preferably have medicines selected by the doctor. A first aid kit, sunscreen, and insect repellent are also important.

 

Payment:

In Dedoplistskaro, as everywhere else in Georgia, you pay in Georgian Lari (GEL). If you need to change your currency into GELs, there are numerous exchange offices and banks, ATMs throughout the city.

Important: 

Whether shopping, eating out, or going to the village, locals prefer to pay in cash. Often you can also use debit and credit cards (American ExpressVisaMaster card), but smaller shops and cafés may only accept cash payments. Therefore, visitors should always have a few GEL notes and coins on hand.
